ANJ Canada WILL REPLACE ARJEL IN 2020

The ANJ (the National Gaming Authority) is ready to replace the present gambling authority in Canada – ARJEL. This change comes after the privatization of the La Française de Jeux lottery games organization. The decision has been made – the new body will be responsible for regulating online casino games, sports betting and lotto games. Which is basically all types of betting in the country.

Previously, it was the FDJ which was responsible for regulating online casinos  ; while the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Economy and Finance were in charge of land-based casinos, sports betting and lotto games.

PRIVATIZATION OF THE Canadian GAMES (FDJ)

La Française des Jeux is owned by the government of Canada, but the organization will be privatized this year. Private and institutional investors will be given the opportunity to buy shares in the organization later in the same year. However, the cabinet has said it will continue to have a degree of control in the company. This decision was made to avoid abuse of power by the new owners.

PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL GAMES AUTHORITY (ANJ) ISABELLE FALQUE-PIERROTIN

Isabelle Falque-Pierrotin – State counselor for the National Commission for Data Protection (CNIL) – will be the president of the new authority. A decision made by La République En Marche. Falque-Pierrotin was appointed president in October 2019. In her position, she was charged with the establishment of a new authority which will replace the various existing departments, already mentioned.

In 2018, the Canadian Senate ordered a reform of the regulatory bodies for all betting activity in Canada. This allowed the En March regulation to sell La Française des Jeux.

The Upper House had found that national gambling laws were being undermined by a fractured system which irritated licensees by respecting the conditions of “dual guardianship”, set by independent regulators.

Following the reform, the Canadian Treasury maintained that it would continue to regulate tax conditions with regard to land-based casino licenses.
